Flutter versions

Which Flutter versions OverPush works with, and what to do when you upgrade.

Supported versions

PlatformFlutter
AndroidAny stable version your app builds with.
iOS
  • 3.41.4
  • 3.47.5
  • 3.47.6
  • 3.47.7
  • 3.47.8
  • 3.47.9
iOS patching needs build tools made for each Flutter version; more versions are added over time. Flutter 3.47 needs CLI 1.2.15 or later.

Check yours with:

$ flutter --version

On a Flutter version iOS doesn't support yet, overpush release ios stops before building and says so.

One version per release

A patch is built with the same Flutter version as the release it patches. The CLI checks this and won't build a patch with a different one, because the result could not run on the release.

So in CI, pin the Flutter version to the one that built the release. See Continuous integration.

Upgrading Flutter

  1. Upgrade and test as usual

Nothing about OverPush changes how you upgrade.

  2. Ship a store release

Run overpush release android with the new version and upload the .aab in Play Console.

Check the new version is supported first, then run overpush release ios with it and upload it with overpush releases archive.

  3. Patch the new release

New patches go to the new release. Phones still on the old store version keep the patches they have, and you can still patch the old release from a computer that has the old Flutter version.
